Semiconductor A Transexual :D

Semiconductors:

Let us start with the definition in my words
A semiconductor is a type of material through which partial current can pass.
Why not we discuss the word, partial first, Partial is a word with the original "part". It means that the definition is telling us that all of the current cannot pass through a semiconductor but a part of a current can pass through it.
What if I say
The conductor is male :)
Insulators are Females ;)
Semiconductors are Shemales :D

Let us try some other helping terms

A BOND

A bond is a fluid type material which we use to stick things. Like Magic Bond, Samad Bond, etc... You can find a lot of sticky materials with the name of Bond in your local market :)

Chemical Bonding

Now if I ask you what is a chemical bond it doesn't mean that a chemical used to stick things... It means it is a bond which sticks the atoms of some elements with mutual sharing of electrons
How beautiful thing is this :D // really
Silicon and Germanium
In the fourth group of the periodic table, we see germanium and silicon are there. Why they are in the fourth group because they have four electrons in their valence shell ;)
So it has four electrons in its valence shell. While good conductors have one electron in their valence shell and good insulators have usually eight electrons in their valence shell. Silicon atom mutually shares four elections with the adjacent atom of silicon to complete eight electrons in its valence shell and to become a man :) at the same moment the atom giving all of its electrons to the adjacent atom becomes super female without having any of the electron...

You Know What

Electrons rotate around the nucleus approx 240 million times per second... The phenomena I told you above repeats approx 120 million times a second
Silicon behaves like a male and a female simultaneously :D
There are two types of semiconductors
N-Type Semiconductors, which have more holes than electrons, and P-Type Semiconductors, which have more electrons than holes.
To create N or P type we use doping, A doped semiconductor is transexual in short.

Insulator story

INSULATOR STORY

Let us start with the definition in my words :)
The insulator is a type of material through which no current can pass.

Characters

Wood
Battery Source

Let us consider the wood as an element having eight electrons in its valence shell.

Here  it comes the story

Eight electrons play together at cards while revolving in the valence shell of wood. Somebody applies a voltage across the piece of wood. A lonely electron comes from that high potential and asks these eight electrons to get lost and says I don't want you here just go away from me as per charge rules you and I have the same charge so I warn you to go away. They feel a disturbance in their card game and replies,
"We know who your mother is... Just shut your mouth and go back to where you came from." and keep indulged in their game. So no current passes through the wood. Such type of materials is known as insulators.

Current always travels from the higher potential to the lower potential

Let us start from the definition of conductor in my words :)

A type of material through which electric current can pass easily is known as a conductor. If we see the periodic table usually available in chemistry books we see that copper has the atomic number of 29 so, according to the rules of drawing atomic structure we see that copper has only one electron in its outermost shell, which is also known as its valence shell.

Reminder of Coulomb's Law

The force of attraction or repulsion between two charged bodies is directly proportional to the product of the amount of charge and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.
The same type of charges repel each other and opposite type of charges attract each other.

HERE IT COMES THE STORY

A lonely electron rotates around the nucleus. Somebody applies a voltage across the wire containing that lonely electron. A healthy (// just to make some interest otherwise electrons have the same amount of charge on them) electron comes from the battery source and (// as we know the same type of charges repel each other) asks this lonely one to get lost, just go away from me I don't want to see you again. So electron feels compelled to flow towards lower potential of the wire. Then another electron comes from the battery source and asks the consecutive electron to move forward. When the last electron of the wire tries to jump forward, a hole or you can say the positive charge embraces that electron. Finally, we say that the flow of electron is current and the current flows through conductors.
The materials having single electron in their outermost shell are known as good conductors.
